Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Anthony should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B-. You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent pick 51 on Zach Frazier while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots sat unaddressed.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Anthony. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Frazier pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 20th overall pick they get a building block for the line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Melton
Good price on Max Melton in No. 84, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick98
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the 98th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
No edge and no loss on McKinnley Jackson in pick No. 119; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178
Rnd6
Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha at slot 178 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jalen Coker
Jalen Coker in pick 256 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick257
Rnd7
Daijahn Anthony
Daijahn Anthony at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
