Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a D-, for the Bears.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The cost of the Haynesworth reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Booker.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman slipping to pick 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaden Hicks in Round 4, Pick 11. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in the 123rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick143 Rnd5 Sincere Haynesworth
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sincere Haynesworth well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick182 Rnd6 Austin Booker
The board fumbled Austin Booker all the way to No. 182, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
