Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureA+
The Browns lost the trade table, and the B- tells the story. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Browns did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Ponds where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Every board in the league had Stribling lower, and that gap is the story.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the 24th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 26th pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon in No. 39 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick60
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where D'Angelo Ponds graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malachi Fields. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick107
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in pick No. 107 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
They read the board right and Parker Brailsford was the payoff at slot 126. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
They took Jaeden Roberts at par in Round 5, Pick 1, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in slot 144 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick147
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204
Rnd6
VJ Payne
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing VJ Payne in pick 204. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
They paid a round early for De'Zhaun Stribling in Round 7, Pick 32, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
