FutureB-
The Chiefs won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Raheim Sanders, 44 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. It is not that Bryant is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick 57 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the 63rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
They paid up for Isaiah Bond at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at slot 74 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick95
Rnd3
Cobee Bryant
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cobee Bryant at cornerback with tight end, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick133
Rnd4
Raheim Sanders
Value said wait; Raheim Sanders in Round 4, Pick 31 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick226
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in Round 7, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at the 251st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick257
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Shilo Sanders. A minor need, but a need all the same.
