Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chargers. The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 256 on Justin Walley a full 64 spots early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Warren steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 24 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot.
Pick55
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
No drama and no debate, Alfred Collins went about where he belonged in the 55th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick97
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at the 97th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They reached into another round for Antwaun Powell-Ryland, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick157
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Willie Lampkin well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick158
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at No. 181 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick199
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They paid sticker price for KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick No. 199, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in pick 214 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
A premium they did not need to pay, Jermari Harris a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick234
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Teddye Buchanan in Round 7, Pick 18, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick256
Rnd7
Justin Walley
Justin Walley at the 256th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
