Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B-.

The Chargers put a flag in the ground for Jahvaree Ritzie, 57 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
By-the-book stuff, Jack Sawyer at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in pick 90, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick101 Rnd3 Nohl Williams
They went early on Nohl Williams in slot 101, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick128 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at No. 128 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Nice patience on Kyle Williams, who had no business lasting to pick No. 144. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin in Round 6, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick199 Rnd6 Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III in No. 199 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209 Rnd6 Tahj Brooks
Good price on Tahj Brooks in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jahvaree Ritzie
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jahvaree Ritzie in the 220th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick256 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 256th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
