Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C-
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureC
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Knight Jr.: C-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Demetrius Knight Jr. at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They will need Caldwell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

If Malaki Starks and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
No edge and no loss on Emeka Egbuka in No. 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick30 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In the 30th overall pick they get a two-high chess piece, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at pick 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Nice patience on Kaleb Johnson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 52. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in the 121st pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161 Rnd5 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Demetrius Knight Jr. at slot 161 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
A big swing on Jamaree Caldwell at Round 7, Pick 7, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
