Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Seahawks did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Seahawks spent pick 234 on Jackson Hawes, a name the board had a full 27 spots lower.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Watts where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A real need, handled.
Pick50 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick52 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Demetrius Knight Jr. at No. 52 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick61 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jackson at slot 61, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in the 82nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
A conviction pick on Jared Wilson at the 92nd overall pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick137 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
A wild overpay on O'Donnell Fortune in No. 137, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick172 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
They talked themselves into Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
They went early on JJ Pegues in slot 175, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick223 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 223rd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
A big swing on Jackson Hawes at pick 234, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
