FutureA
The Browns let Klare fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. When a board-topper like Max Klare slides to Round 4, Pick 25, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In No. 21 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kadyn Proctor in the Round 1 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick44
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No edge and no loss on Olaivavega Ioane in pick 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They will replay Jake Slaughter at Round 2, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Taurean York
Taurean York is a better player than pick No. 72 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Germie Bernard in the 75th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Colton Hood
They barely believed it either: Colton Hood still on the board at the 86th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick111
Rnd4
LaNorris Sellers
LaNorris Sellers in slot 111 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125
Rnd4
Max Klare
Max Klare at the 125th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at slot 144 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
The board fumbled Earnest Greene III all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242
Rnd7
Amare Campbell
Amare Campbell at Round 7, Pick 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
