Draft Grade — Lions
Overall D-
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureC+
The Lions got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Lions took Jimmy Horn Jr. a full 105 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
Value said wait; Elic Ayomanor in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at the 60th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in No. 70 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick82 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
By-the-book stuff, Andrew Mukuba at Round 3, Pick 18 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
A reach on Jalen Milroe in pick 83; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Alexander. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick133 Rnd4 Elijah Roberts
They reached into another round for Elijah Roberts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at pick 198 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jimmy Horn Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jimmy Horn Jr. in the 227th overall pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230 Rnd7 Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith at slot 230 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick246 Rnd7 Jaydon Blue
They reached a country mile for Jaydon Blue at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
