The Dolphins let Tagovailoa fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Taulia Tagovailoa at Round 7, Pick 22 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Knox lower, and that gap is the story. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
Fair-plus on Dallas Turner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick53
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 21, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Trey Knox
Trey Knox at pick No. 158 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick186
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
A tidy little value on Josh Proctor in the 186th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick199
Rnd6
Omar Speights
No edge and no loss on Omar Speights in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa in pick 242 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
