FutureB-
The Steelers let Howard fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Will Howard, the No. 101 name on the board, in the 123rd pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 30th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick83
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Quinshon Judkins at pick 83. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard at the 123rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick156
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
A quiet steal in pick No. 156: Malachi Moore for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185
Rnd6
Connor Colby
By-the-book stuff, Connor Colby at Round 6, Pick 9 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick229
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in No. 229 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
