Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Lambert-Smith: B.

Call it larceny. KeAndre Lambert-Smith sat on the board until pick 238, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. No fireworks, but a solid B.

Every board in the league had Horsley lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
They took Abdul Carter at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick No. 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 69th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick77 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in the 77th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 81 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Grant at slot 89, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 4, Pick 4. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144 Rnd5 Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in pick 144 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick166 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
They read the board right and Bhayshul Tuten was the payoff at slot 166. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ryan Fitzgerald
By-the-book stuff, Ryan Fitzgerald at Round 5, Pick 33 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick220 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley in the 220th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They barely believed it either: KeAndre Lambert-Smith still on the board at No. 238. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
