FutureF
The Giants bet the future on Sanders. The board says D. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Giants did exactly that with J.J. Weaver in Round 7, Pick 30.
Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Landing Paul Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick11
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In slot 11 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 37 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jayden Higgins in the 100th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in pick 103, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
You do not let a tight end like Mason Taylor reach the 125th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in pick No. 134 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick153
Rnd5
Chris Paul Jr.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in slot 153 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick188
Rnd6
Kyle Monangai
A reach for Kyle Monangai in pick 188; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick199
Rnd6
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in the 199th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They read the board right and Jordan Hancock was the payoff at No. 219. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at the 246th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
