Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears turned the phones into found money: A.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jacobs. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick26 Rnd1 Jared Verse
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jared Verse in pick No. 26. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Fair-plus on Will Shipley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
A reach on Jordan Travis in the 132nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick137 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith slipping to the 137th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick141 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
The board had Khyree Jackson higher than No. 141, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
A reach for Moose Muhammad III in pick 182; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick225 Rnd7 Curtis Jacobs
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Curtis Jacobs at the Round 7 slot is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick253 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
A tidy little value on Walter Rouse in Round 7, Pick 33, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
