FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Packers. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Packers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Landing Speights that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Beebe reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick No. 25 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the 41st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in No. 69 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 25 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick92
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
A tidy bit of business in pick 135, where Kris Abrams-Draine graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142
Rnd5
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 142nd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick203
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Nothing to complain about; Josh Proctor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick217
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand slipping to pick No. 217 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238
Rnd7
Omar Speights
Nice patience on Omar Speights, who had no business lasting to slot 238. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
A conviction pick on Joshua Cephus at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy at the 254th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
