FutureB-
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jalin Conyers in pick 252, a good 128 spots before the room expected him.
The Emmanwori steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 11th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 43 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Higgins in slot 76. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 100th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Brashard Smith
They did well to land Brashard Smith in No. 138, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elijah Roberts in Round 5, Pick 9, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
They reached a country mile for Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins at the 160th pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171
Rnd5
CJ West
A reach for CJ West in Round 5, Pick 33; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac TeSlaa at pick No. 227, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at pick 231 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick239
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
A real head-scratcher, Collin Oliver in the 239th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
A big swing on Brant Kuithe at slot 249, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jalin Conyers
Jalin Conyers at No. 252 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick253
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Good price on Zeek Biggers in pick 253, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
