MikeFinn23 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Walker fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jalon Walker, the No. 24 name on the board, stolen at Round 2, Pick 11. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
They barely believed it either: Alfred Collins still on the board at pick No. 75. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Deone Walker at the 100th overall pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
By-the-book stuff, Cam Skattebo at the 113th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
They let Emery Jones Jr. come to them and pounced at pick 138. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 9, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick160
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mitchell Evans at slot 160. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 11 is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick249
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They read the board right and Isaac TeSlaa was the payoff at pick 249. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
