FutureB-
Ford should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Jaylan Ford at slot 249 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The 49ers indulged a want in Solomon while a need in running back, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Darius Robinson
They went early on Darius Robinson in slot 31, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 94 on Javon Solomon with running back, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick98
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
McKinnley Jackson at pick No. 98 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 32 is lovely value for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176
Rnd6
Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at the 176th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
A conviction pick on Garret Greenfield at the 209th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams in Round 6, Pick 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Raym well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
Steal is underselling it; Jaylan Ford at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
