Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B+.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Samuel Brown, 70 picks early at the 138th overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

They banked enough surplus on Henderson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback went begging.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
They took Derrick Harmon at par in pick 34, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at No. 43 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
A wild overpay on Jordan Burch in the 75th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in Round 3, Pick 12 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick89 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Taking Gunnar Helm in the 89th pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Andrew Mukuba while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Pick103 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hollin Pierce. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at slot 126 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick137 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
A tidy little value on Domani Jackson in Round 4, Pick 36, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138 Rnd5 Samuel Brown
A real head-scratcher, Samuel Brown in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Cody Simon
Steal is underselling it; Cody Simon at pick 173 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Somehow Raheim Sanders was still sitting there in the 185th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 226 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick230 Rnd7 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at slot 230 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick241 Rnd7 Logan Parr
Good price on Logan Parr in pick 241, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
Trey Wedig in the 249th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
