Draft Grade — Vikings

FutureF
The Vikings left with their quarterback, and a F to match. The Vikings torched the value chart for Garret Greenfield, taking him 44 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Landing Carter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick8
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick No. 8 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
The board had Caelen Carson higher than Round 4, Pick 7, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
Somehow DeWayne Carter was still sitting there in the 128th pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
A tidy bit of business in slot 156, where Jacob Cowing graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in the 166th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick176
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield in Round 6, Pick 1 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan in pick No. 187 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick230
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at No. 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
