Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 38 spots for Kimani Vidal, and value like that does not grow back.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in the 69th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
They went early on Cole Bishop in pick 94, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick100 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 100th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips at slot 101 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick105 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They jumped the gun on Theo Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick111 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at slot 111 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick150 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 14, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at the 168th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
A conviction pick on Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 176 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal in pick 215 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick251 Rnd7 Austin Reed
Austin Reed at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
