Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Branch: B-.

The phones were a trap the 49ers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Branch pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
They took Caleb Lomu at par in slot 27, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel McNeil-Warren went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick79 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Zachariah Branch in the 79th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A tidy bit of business in pick 133, where Davison Igbinosun graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick138 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A tidy little value on Logan Jones in No. 138, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
By-the-book stuff, Kaleb Proctor at Round 5, Pick 33 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 32; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
