Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureC+
Quarterback settled, Milroe in the fold, and a B for the Raiders.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Jalen Milroe in slot 31. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Jalen Milroe gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Burden III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jalen Milroe
In the 31st pick they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick33 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omarion Hampton. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick37 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III slipping to slot 37 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick62 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
A reach on Maxwell Hairston in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams in No. 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris at the 68th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81 Rnd3 Deone Walker
No edge and no loss on Deone Walker in No. 81; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
They paid up for Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 94 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick108 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
A reach for Cobee Bryant in the 108th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kalel Mullings
A big swing on Kalel Mullings at the 143rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180 Rnd6 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at Round 6, Pick 4 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213 Rnd6 Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson in pick No. 213 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw at pick 215 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick226 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
They reached into another round for LaJohntay Wester, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
