Draft Grade — Falcons

FutureB
The Falcons let Edwards fall and pounced. Final grade: D-. The tape said wait; the Falcons did not. Kevin Jennings went at the 242nd pick, a good 37 picks before the board was ready.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Getting Edwards where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A straight-up fair deal on JT Tuimoloau at the 46th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Jared Wilson at pick No. 99 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in slot 105 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick119
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in No. 119 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick124
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick125
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
A slide stopped in pick 125, with Smael Mondon Jr. worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick158
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijah Roberts this early at the 158th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 179th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick192
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They jumped the gun on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick218
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam in slot 218 is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick242
Rnd7
Kevin Jennings
They reached into another round for Kevin Jennings, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They barely believed it either: Donovan Edwards still on the board at No. 246. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
