FutureA+
The Bears lost the trade table, and the B- tells the story. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Estime steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In pick 5 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick No. 9 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamren Kinchens in No. 37. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Good price on Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick110
Rnd4
Audric Estime
A tidy bit of business in the 110th overall pick, where Audric Estime graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Malik Washington
They paid sticker price for Malik Washington in slot 117, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in Round 4, Pick 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cedric Gray
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cedric Gray at the 146th pick is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 193rd overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
