Draft Grade — Patriots

The Patriots let Moore fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Rod Moore, the No. 142 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 8 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Shand reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick No. 3 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at Round 3, Pick 3 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick78
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 78th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Steal is underselling it; Malachi Moore at No. 107 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick142
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
They barely believed it either: Deontae Lawson still on the board at the 142nd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick219
Rnd7
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222
Rnd7
Rod Moore
Rod Moore in slot 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Paris Shand
They reached into another round for Paris Shand, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
