Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B+
ValueB-

FutureB
The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Drew Kendall in pick No. 238. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at No. 14 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Nothing to complain about; Jihaad Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick49
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A tidy little value on Xavier Watts in pick No. 49, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins slid further than he should have, and pick 69 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at Round 4, Pick 4 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Etienne. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A premium they did not need to pay, JJ Pegues a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A straight-up fair deal on Ricky White III at Round 7, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Drew Kendall
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drew Kendall this early at the 238th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
