Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Smith: D-.

The Steelers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The Frazier pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Smith falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

The Mustapha pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In slot 23 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
Pick37 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick42 Rnd2 Carson Beck
No edge and no loss on Carson Beck in No. 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick55 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke at the 55th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end to take Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick110 Rnd4 Devontez Walker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Devontez Walker in the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Audric Estime
No drama and no debate, Audric Estime went about where he belonged in the 113th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick118 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in pick No. 118 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Howard Cross III
A tidy little value on Howard Cross III in pick 123, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
The board had cheaper options than Malik Mustapha at slot 132, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick155 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at Round 5, Pick 19 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jasheen Davis
Jasheen Davis in the 201st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204 Rnd6 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick225 Rnd7 Curtis Jacobs
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Curtis Jacobs in No. 225. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Duce Chestnut
Duce Chestnut at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
