The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Cody Simon, the No. 132 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 37 like a gift left on the doorstep.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Travis Hunter and all.
