Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA+
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the B-. The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 182nd pick on Jha'Quan Jackson a full 44 spots early.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Liufau falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In slot 22 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick34
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick50
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at the 50th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in pick No. 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68
Rnd3
Ricky Pearsall
They took Ricky Pearsall at par in the 68th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103
Rnd4
Michael Pratt
Michael Pratt in Round 4, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104
Rnd4
Marist Liufau
You do not let a linebacker like Marist Liufau reach Round 4, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick136
Rnd4
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in pick 136 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick138
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth at slot 138 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jha'Quan Jackson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jha'Quan Jackson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick229
Rnd7
Austin Stogner
A tight end of that caliber at No. 229 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
