Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureB-
The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Donovan Smith in the Round 7 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The Mukuba pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
Fair-plus on Armand Membou, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the 38th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jihaad Campbell in No. 45. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tre Harris
A slide stopped in pick 69, with Tre Harris worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ashton Gillotte. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
The board fumbled Andrew Mukuba all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144 Rnd5 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in No. 144 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick151 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at the 151st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220 Rnd7 Ricky White III
By-the-book stuff, Ricky White III at pick 220 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick232 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
A big swing on Donovan Smith at pick No. 232, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Alijah Huzzie at slot 238. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
