FutureA+
The Bears let Mahogany fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Christian Mahogany tumbling to the Bears in the 110th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The John Michael Schmitz Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
They paid sticker price for Laiatu Latu in No. 9, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin slid further than he should have, and the 39th pick is lovely value for the safety. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
No drama and no debate, Kris Jenkins went about where he belonged in pick 47. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They paid up for Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 75 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 110th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
They went early on Jordan Travis in slot 122, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick146
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
