The Seahawks drew a line under the quarterback search with McCarthy: C.

Start where it matters. The Seahawks took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

Reaching for Hanson left real value on the table behind him. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

Edwards falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Hit on J.J. McCarthy and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In pick No. 30 they get their quarterback of the future, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kris Jenkins in the 62nd pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in No. 78, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick81 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
A clean, defensible pick in slot 81 with a little surplus value in Xavier Legette. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at Round 5, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick151 Rnd5 AJ Barner
AJ Barner at pick 151 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Michael Barrett. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Daijun Edwards
The board fumbled Daijun Edwards all the way to pick 226, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick233 Rnd7 C.J. Hanson
They talked themselves into C.J. Hanson at No. 233, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
