Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Texans. Nobody else had Jackson Woodard anywhere near pick No. 241. The Texans did, by 90 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Allen falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Josh Conerly Jr.
In pick No. 31 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 62nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins slid further than he should have, and pick 66 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
They let Jayden Higgins come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 15. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darien Porter at slot 89. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick109
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Circle this one: Ozzy Trapilo at No. 109 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick166
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
LeQuint Allen at No. 166 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 173 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler in the 236th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jackson Woodard
They reached into another round for Jackson Woodard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
