Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureD
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: C.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Eyabi Okie-Anoma a full 196 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Cooper falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

If Caleb Williams and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick52 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in No. 52 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at slot 67. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zak Zinter in pick No. 100. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 1. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in pick 103, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
A conviction pick on Theo Johnson at pick 138 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 Bub Means
Bub Means at the 181st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick188 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 13: Roger Rosengarten for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick220 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
A real head-scratcher, Tahj Washington in No. 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222 Rnd7 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eyabi Okie-Anoma this early at pick No. 222. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jaylen Key
A wild overpay on Jaylen Key in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
