Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureD+
The Colts turned the phones into found money: B.

Whoever sat across the table from the Colts should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Legette pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

The Rosengarten pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In No. 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick21 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 21 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick55 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
They paid a round early for Xavier Legette in the 55th overall pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in slot 128 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick134 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in pick No. 134; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick144 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten is a better player than Round 5, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
They took Dylan Laube at par in the 151st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in pick No. 158. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick191 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They went early on Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They paid up for Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 234 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
