Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB- NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Blake Watson; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 70 spots ahead at the Round 6 slot. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Newton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In the 15th pick they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick28 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
Value with a capital V on Jer'Zhan Newton in the 28th overall pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick49 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette is a better player than slot 49 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
No edge and no loss on Christian Haynes in No. 62; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 10 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166 Rnd5 Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in pick 166 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Blake Watson
A wild overpay on Blake Watson in Round 6, Pick 40, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
