FutureA
The Jets fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Jets did not so much draft Jackson Hawes as overpay for him, 70 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The Emmanwori pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 20 they get a mismatch in the passing game. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42
Rnd2
Ozzy Trapilo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ozzy Trapilo well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick51
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in the 51st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A tidy bit of business in pick 73, where Alfred Collins graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110
Rnd4
Willie Lampkin
They talked themselves into Willie Lampkin at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick145
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 145 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick162
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in Round 5, Pick 24 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at pick 186 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick207
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
A clean, defensible pick in the 207th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jay Higgins. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
