FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Falcons to a D. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Falcons did exactly that with Shilo Sanders in pick No. 218.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They banked enough surplus on Alexander to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that.
Pick33
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in No. 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They went early on Jayden Higgins in the 46th pick, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Value with a capital V on Demetrius Knight Jr. in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick118
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
Steal is underselling it; Zy Alexander at the 118th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
A tidy little value on Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 179, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Willie Lampkin
The board had Willie Lampkin higher than pick No. 192, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at the 218th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at Round 7, Pick 26 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
