Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in Round 6, Pick 21: the Bengals steal McCaffrey and grade out a D-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bengals, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

Wiley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The McCaffrey steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 18 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick49 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
No edge and no loss on Braden Fiske in slot 49; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick80 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum at the 80th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90 Rnd3 DJ James
DJ James in No. 90 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick116 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They paid up for Cedric Gray at the 116th pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
The board had cheaper options than Jaheim Bell at the 148th overall pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick175 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at slot 175, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick196 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
Taking Luke McCaffrey in Round 6, Pick 21 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick235 Rnd7 Nathan Thomas
They will replay Nathan Thomas at pick 235 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
They barely believed it either: Tyler Owens still on the board at the 252nd pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
