The Patriots answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: B-.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will need Vidal to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Getting Watson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
