Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chiefs bled value on every deal, hence the D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Chiefs did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Reaching for Benny left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Sadiq to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
In the 24th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the 28th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Circle this one: Kenyon Sadiq at pick 45 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman at pick No. 55 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76 Rnd3 Julian Neal
They paid up for Julian Neal at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick88 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to slot 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick114 Rnd4 Boubacar Traore
Boubacar Traore at Round 4, Pick 14 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick115 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in No. 115 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They paid a round early for Blake Miller in Round 4, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick153 Rnd5 Michael Trigg
Value with a capital V on Michael Trigg in No. 153, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick155 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Demond Claiborne graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in slot 176 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at the 178th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Davison Igbinosun at pick 179 is the proof. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
