Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Bears this weekend: D-.

The Bears did not so much draft Jackson Woodard as overpay for him, 150 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is not that Winston Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Harmon.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
Fair-plus on Tyler Warren, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick30 Rnd1 Jihaad Campbell
In the 30th pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
They read the board right and Derrick Harmon was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick55 Rnd2 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in pick 55 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick56 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in No. 56. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
They took Carson Schwesinger at par in the 71st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They liked Andrew Mukuba enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 72. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick73 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
A big swing on Dylan Fairchild at pick No. 73, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick80 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 80th overall pick on Kevin Winston Jr. with quarterback unsolved.
Pick98 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
A straight-up fair deal on Zy Alexander at Round 3, Pick 34, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in No. 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jacob Parrish. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125 Rnd4 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 125 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148 Rnd5 Ben Sauls
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sauls a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick150 Rnd5 Logan Brown
A tidy little value on Logan Brown in pick No. 150, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick158 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at slot 158 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jackson Woodard
Jackson Woodard in No. 177 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
They talked themselves into Isaac TeSlaa at the 181st overall pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
