Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureC+
The Saints reached for Brown and never recovered. Grade: F. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with Antario Brown in the Round 7 slot.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Sanders falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In pick 14 they get a ballhawk on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick16
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
By-the-book stuff, Nick Emmanwori at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the 71st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick72
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason Taylor. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85
Rnd3
David Walker
Value said wait; David Walker in Round 3, Pick 21 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Shough this early at the Round 4 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Que Robinson
They reached a country mile for Que Robinson at the 112th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
No edge and no loss on Emery Jones Jr. in the 117th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
A wild overpay on Ty Robinson in pick 129, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at pick No. 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 171 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at Round 5, Pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at No. 176 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
A slide stopped in slot 191, with Raheim Sanders worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203
Rnd6
Alex Mastromanno
Alex Mastromanno at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick204
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in No. 204 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick208
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
They reached into another round for Carson Vinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick232
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
A tidy little value on Desmond Watson in pick No. 232, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Antario Brown
Antario Brown at Round 7, Pick 32 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
