Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureF
Sanders is the plan now, and the Saints grade out a F. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Saints took Jalen Travis a full 48 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Dike to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with cornerback still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In slot 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They took Tyler Booker at par in pick 40, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at No. 42 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A reach for Deone Walker in pick No. 76; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams at the 85th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131
Rnd4
Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike in the 131st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Que Robinson
They talked themselves into Que Robinson at slot 149, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
A big swing on Jalen McLeod at the 171st pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They jumped the gun on Dont'e Thornton Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick184
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
They let DJ Giddens come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 8. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
They reached into another round for Jalen Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick246
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
Nothing to complain about; CJ Dippre went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garrett Dellinger in the 247th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick248
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
A straight-up fair deal on Ty Hamilton at Round 7, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
