Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC+
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Javon Baker at the 143rd pick is 43 spots clear of where he belonged. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Jackson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, linebacker very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In pick 9 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In the 27th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
They paid sticker price for Kamren Kinchens in slot 35, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick49 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick59 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 27. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in No. 75 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick116 Rnd4 Max Melton
A clean, defensible pick in the 116th overall pick with a little surplus value in Max Melton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They took Justin Eboigbe at par in the 123rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick143 Rnd5 Javon Baker
They reached a country mile for Javon Baker at slot 143, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick222 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
Nothing to complain about; Miyan Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jha'Quan Jackson
Circle this one: Jha'Quan Jackson at pick No. 245 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
