Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureA+
The Texans turned the phones into found money: A-. The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Sam Hartman, taking him 55 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Bullock pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick Analysis
Pick46
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 46th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick47
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at No. 47 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick51
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
They took Braden Fiske at par in the 51st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick54
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in pick No. 54 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jaylen Wright
They jumped the gun on Jaylen Wright, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A reach for Dominick Puni in No. 75; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76
Rnd3
Renardo Green
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Renardo Green. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick79
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Calen Bullock adds a safety and leaves tight end untouched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Audric Estime
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 90. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick143
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty'Ron Hopper this early at pick 143. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick162
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Jefferson well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They went early on Jaylen Harrell in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at the 203rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
