Draft Grade — Jets

The Jets let Ransom fall and pounced. Final grade: A-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Lathan Ransom tumbling to the Jets in the 146th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Adonai Mitchell pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In the end it comes back to Will Johnson, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In the 14th pick they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Taking Kenneth Grant in pick 42 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick92
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter slid further than he should have, and No. 92 is lovely value for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick109
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
A reach for Kyle McCord in the 109th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
No drama and no debate, Terrance Ferguson went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 16. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick146
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
You do not let a safety like Lathan Ransom reach pick No. 146 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Joshua Gray
A conviction pick on Joshua Gray at slot 157 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick188
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the 209th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
