FutureA+
Bullard should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Javon Bullard at the Round 4 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Legette pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Adding DeMarcus Lawrence by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In the 24th pick they get a go-to option on the outside, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 31st overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick53
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 53, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick 63 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Josh Newton
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Josh Newton graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 31 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110
Rnd4
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in slot 110 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III slid further than he should have, and pick No. 122 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146
Rnd5
James Williams
The board had James Williams higher than pick 146, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick213
Rnd6
Daequan Hardy
The board had cheaper options than Daequan Hardy at the 213th pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
